Franz Johnston -  Georgian Bay Sunset - Provenance

The painting  "Franz Johnston’s -  Georgian Bay Sunset'' was bought by Dr. Percival Garbutt born late 1880’s. Dr. Garbutt died in the late 1980's. Dr. Garbutt was the present owners great, great, great uncle.

He was a well respected General Practitioner in the Toronto York Mills area and practiced medicine for over 70 years well into his nineties.

It is thought by family that Dr. Garbutt purchased the painting in the early 1930's locally on Yonge St., Toronto, Ontario, Canada,

The painting was purchased from the Dr.’s estate sale in the late 1980’s by Dr. Garbutt’s niece Mary Anne Hansen and husband Meinert Hansen.

Mary Anne and Meinert Hansen lived in Toronto’s, St. Andrews area on Yorkminster Road.

Mary Anne Hansen died in 1992 and her husband Meinert Hansen took sole possession.

In 1998 Meinert Hansen died and willed the painting to their nephew and the present owner of the painting. 

In 2021, the present owner has asked Thomas Beckett of Beckett Fine Art to sell this important Canadian historical painting on his behalf.
