This piece speaks directly to the intergenerational harm done to Indigenous families throughout the history of colonial violence in North America. More specifically how the cycles of abuse suffered by survivors of the Residential School system of both Canada and the United States. These genocidal acts of government left deep scars in our communities that many have never recovered from. Addiction, mental illness and higher rates of suicide are clear examples of this centuries long abuse of Indigenous people.
